The first is the Osram Lightify smart switch. Two of these have recently come on the market. If the device allows you to send a signal to the hub, it may be possible to use it as what SmartThings calls a “button controller” like the Aeon minimote, which would mean you could then use the buttons to control devices of a different protocol then the switch cover itself, or maybe two arm/disarm smart home monitor, etc.Īnd again because these devices are battery operated, some of them can also be used on the nightstand or to create a virtual three-way or again to arm/disarm smart home monitor without having to cover an existing switch. But the cover has its own buttons that you can use to send a wireless signal either to the bulbs or in some cases to the hub to instruct the bulbs to turn on and off. If the iotty gang is off, then the Smart Bulb is off If the iotty gang is on, then the Smart Bulb is on In this case, you have to remember to leave a free gang (when you physically connect the iotty plate you will have to leave at least one RL free) to assign it to the Smart Bulb and, through IFTTT, you will have to create the 2 Applets that allow you to control your Smart Bulb via Wi-Fi: In this case the iotty Switch will only need power through the Phase and Neutral. connect the Smart Bulb directly to the power without passing through the iotty device, so that it always receives power. In this case you need to be sure that the iotty Smart Switch is turned on in order to control the Smart Bulb connect the smart bulb to the iotty device as a common switch.
